Pine Nuts

I had read that Gray Pines, which grow on our property, produce a delicious (if difficult to harvest) nut, rivaling even the Pinon Pine Nut. Most of the cones that we’ve found so far have already been scavenged by the (wild) locals, but last weekend Molly found a few pine cones with nuts still in them. So my brother and I took some time to try to gently tap tap tap the shells open. Turns out they’re not kidding about these nuts being hard to harvest! The shells are incredibly strong and the nuts are quick to break. But we managed to get a few and they were tasty. If we can find some more we might try to see if we can develop our nut-cracking skills. Until then, we’ll enjoy them one at a time.
